Do you solo, coach, or group??

I wanted to go on a 60 mile bike ride today... it ended up being 37 miles. I was all alone, by the end I really needed a push because I was done pushing myself. I was hungry and it was getting late and I was just done. I think if I had my friends along the ride with me it would have been easily attainable. Strength in numbers right??

So as I was riding I was thinking of asking you guys how you train.
Are you lucky enough to have a personal coach?

Are you part of a club and are able to go on group rides, runs or swims?

Do you only train solo?

Do you train mostly solo but have group rides or runs on occasion?

What do you think works best for you?
If you are solo do you think you would get better if you trained with a group?
I know lots of questions but it would be interesting to see how everyone trains and how it works for them.

I was able to take a few pictures this afternoon on my ride. It was a beautiful Seattle day. NO RAIN!!!!! YAY! So I had to take some pictures of it!.

    -Nope!

-No, but I'm thinking about joining a local running group.

    Do you only train solo?
    -No

-Define "group"...when I was training for my last half, I did some of my long runs (up through 8 miles I think) with a friend, until we both ended up with injuries.

-I think I run better when I've got company...when I run alone, my thoughts can get the better of me.

If you are solo do you think you would get better if you trained with a group?
-I'm not sure, but I'm ready to find out!

  2. Are you lucky enough to have a personal coach?
-Nah, not lucky enough or good enough :-)

Are you part of a club and are able to go on group rides, runs or swims?
-I am part of a run club and go out on group runs 3 days a week
-I have the option of being part of a cycling group that meets Sundays for long rides but even with the no drop policy, I am scared I'm not fast enough and thus have been too nervous to join.

    Do you only train solo?
-If I trained solo, I probably wouldn't train or wouldn't train as hard

What do you think works best for you?
-Some days I do prefer to run by myself, and I do but for the most part I enjoy running with my group or at least with my good friend who is also part of the group. Running with a group helps me pace myself more appropriately. When I run by myself I tend to either go out way too fast or way too slow. I also like to do speed work in a group, I'm silently competitive and like the satisfaction of beating my training partners ;-)

-I don't mind biking alone although my limit is 25 miles before I'm bored to death.

    - Yes. I am a member of a running club.

    Do you only train solo?
    - no. I train solo and with a group

Do you train mostly solo but have group rides or runs on occasion?
-Short runs = solo. Long runs (once a week) = group

What do you think works best for you?
    - I really like how I have it now, training solo and with a group.

If you are solo do you think you would get better if you trained with a group?
    - n/a

  4. I like a mixture. I do about 3 runs/ week with friends and the rest solo. I used to do a lot of cycling, but that was with friends. Many of them aren't training anymore, which is probably why I don't bike much anymore! As to coaching, I recently became certified to coach, so I am my coach!
